Malaysia strengthens support to Adults in Scouting

3 June, Kuala Lumpur – In supporting the Scouts Association of Malaysia to strengthen its Adult Resources Management to deliver a qualitative Youth Programme to its members and a better managed organization, a 4-day workshop on Adults in Scouting is being held at International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization in Kuala Lumpur from 3 – 6 June 2011.

There are over 20 participants from different states of Malaysia and from national levels. Three external resource persons will chair the group discussions with various aspects related to adult issues. Two executives from APR Office, S. Prassanna Shrivastava and Thian Hiong-Boon support the workshop and to discuss in-depth the life-cycle of adults in Scouting.

Topics to be covered include the concept of AIS, Recruitment & Selection, Job Identification/Description, Training and Support, Roles of adult relationship with young people, Appraisal system, Retention Strategy & Benefits of adults being involved in Scouting, Recognition/Reward, and Decision for the future.

The workshop was inaugurated by the Malaysia Chief Scout, Dato’ Seri Dr Haji Shafie bin Haji Mohd Salleh. Chairman of AIS Malaysia, Dr Mukhyuddin bin Sarwani is the coordinator, while Haji Ishak bin Joned serves as Workshop Director. Other guests in the opening ceremony were International Commissioner Eric Khoo, Chief Scout Executive Zaki Norudin, Adult Support Sub-Committee member Chang Ah Sang.

It is expected at the end of the workshop that a National AIS Policy is drafted and participants will develop their Personal Plan of Action to implement the AIS Policy.
