Scouts for Climate - Showcasing what Scouts are doing to create a better world

The Danish Guide and Scout Association have taken initiative to a global project inviting Scouts from all over the world to engage in combating climate change. Most of the political world is invited to Copenhagen in Denmark to the UN Climate Change Conference (COP15) during December 2009. Whilst the politicians are discussing what to do the Scouts are meeting to share what to do and start acting to create a better world. Working together, the Scouts in Denmark, representing four different associations, are acting for a better world now!

Acting to build a better world
The Scouts in Denmark are inviting international Scout leaders to Denmark during COP15. The Scout leaders participate in the Scouts for Climate Summit taking place in parallel with the UN Climate Change Conference. During the summit the Scout leaders will be trained in different skills to enable and empower them to mobilise their own National Scout Organisations to engage in climate projects. Part of the preparations prior to the summit includes liaising with their own country's government or UN delegation. To support this approach they have received an official letter from the Danish Minister for Climate and Energy encouraging the official participants in the UN Climate Change Conference to build relations with the Scouts.

Empowering the youth
The purpose of the Scouts for Climate Summit is to ensure that the Scout leaders are equipped with competencies, tools, ideas and plans of action to mobilise their own National Scout Associations to initiate and implement behaviour changing projects in their societies. The Scouts in Denmark experience with creating a variety of projects and activities, where Scouts of all ages are involved to ensure that Scouts become climate ambassadors for living climate friendly lives. The Danish activities may be of inspiration to the international Scout leaders. By summoning Scout leaders from around the world the youth are empowered to take responsibility for their own lives. By broadening their knowledge of climate change as well as connecting the political world with the largest youth movement in the world, the Scouts from all over the world act in unison to build a better world.

The future climate
During the summit the Scout leaders will participate in the Bright Green exhibition held in Copenhagen. Here the Scout leaders will experience and meet companies making a difference for the climate. The Scout leaders will be prepared with skills and knowledge to initiate their own activities and projects to ensure the Scout organisation is involved. The Scouts in Denmark will follow up on the projects and keep close contact with the summit participants.
