The Scouts of the World Award at KISC

Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC) has been a key actor on the development of the Scouts of the World Award during the past years. This international programme was presented recently to the staff in KISC as part of the opportunities that young people have to create a better world. The Scouts of the World Award is an international initiative that has been launched in order to encourage a stronger involvement of young adults in the development of society by giving them the skills and opportunities to face the challenges and problems in the world. It concerns global citizenship-preparation for young adults and emphasises three core-themes demanding understanding, skills and knowledge, for life on a small planet: Peace, Environment, and Development.

Summer at KISC is all about international friendship, this is the busiest season of the year. You could easily count almost 1,200 Scouts staying at the campsite on a normal day. Kandersteg gives you the chance to experience the mini-jamboree here at the World Scout Centre.

What better place for a Scouts of the World Award Base!; with Scouts from more than 35 different nationalities.

The staff at KISC were excited to know about the programme and they shared materials and information with enthusiastic Scouts that wanted to get involved with the Scouts of the World Award. They also were interested to get the Scouts of the World Award themselves or to spread the word with all their fellow Scouts.

Some comments from the participants:

"It is a great programme, I am going to share the materials with my association, so that all our Scouts can be part of it."

Dor Posner (Israel)
"I'll be in Africa for six months after KISC, I would like to do my SW Discovery there and then get back to Japan to do a SW Voluntary Service in my local community..."

Fumiaki Sagisaka (Japan)

The Scouts of the World Award is open to young adults (Scouts and non-Scouts) between the ages of 15 and 26 years, regardless of ability, race, faith or location.
