First Scouts of the World Interamerican Seminar held in Costa Rica

In partnership with the National Scout Organization of Costa Rica, the World Scout Bureau organized for the first time the Scouts of the World Interamerican Seminar on 9-11 July 2009 at the “Campo Escuela Nacional Iztaru” in Costa Rica. The aim of the seminar was to share with National Scout Organizations the technical and educational process of developing the Scouts of the World Award as a way of revitalizing the Rover Scout Section. Countries represented were Aruba, Belice, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, El Salvador, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela for a total of 33 participants.

The Seminar explained the concept of the Scouts of the World Award and its elements such as the Scouts of the World Discovery, Scouts of the World Voluntary Service, Scouts of the World Partnership, and support structures. It provided a detailed presentation of the characteristics, objectives and forms of operation of this international initiative in the Rover Scout Section. The agenda covered theory, examples of successful practices and ideas that have proven effective in promoting and developing the SW Award in different parts of the world, as well as specific contributions for implementation at the national level.

The Seminar was designed for leaders who work on youth programme development or are members of national programme commissions, especially those directly related to the Rover Scout Section, and for national commissioners or professionals working in youth programme in NSOs that are in the process of implementing the Scouts of the World Award at the national level.

The National Scout Organization of Costa Rica contributed generously to the event, having kindly offered to cover cost of participation. Their effort had making possible the success of this international Seminar.
