“European Youth, Global Youth” Study Session

The aim of the Study Session is to assist national associations / member organisations to develop programmes in the areas of Global Citizenship and the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

Objectives

  • To explore the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as topics and inspiration for educational programmes
  • To promote and support the development of WAGGGS and WOSM programme frameworks (Scouts of the World, Global Action Theme, etc.) within NSOs/MOs.
  • To facilitate exchanges and develop networking between associations

Participants profile

  • The event is open to all Scouts and Guides from associations within the European Region WAGGGS and the European Scout Region.
  • The participants should be:
  • Young leaders interested and/or engaged in programmes related to the UN MDGs
  • Aged 18 to 30 (exceptions possible)

Dates

The event will take place from 22nd to 29th August 2009. Participants will be requested to arrive before 18:00 on 22nd August and leave starting at 09:00 on 29th August.

Venue

The event will take place in Luminy (Marseille), in the Scouts of the World base “Protection of the Mediterranean Forest against Forest Fires” belonging to Scouts et Guides de France. Except for medical reasons, which need be indicated in advance, lodging will be in tents.

Language

The seminar will take place in French and English. For group works, assistance will be provided to facilitate discussions. Working methods During the event, scout and guide methods will be used: role-plays, work in small groups, exercises, discussions and plenaries. The event will allow exchanges and sharing of good practices, but also to live experiences together

Participation fee

A participation fee of € 250 is requested from the participants from Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom. For representatives from any other country, the fee is € 150. Participants will be asked to plan their journey in the cheapest and the most ecological way.

Visa

Each participant will be asked to organise its journey and to obtain his/her visa. It should be noted that 6 weeks are necessary to obtain a visa. The forms to obtain it should therefore be sent well in advance.
