Third Scouts of the World Discovery (United Kingdom)

The Scouts of the World Award is a special award showing that a young person is aware of world issues and has acquired through a voluntary service the necessary experience and skills to become a citizen of the world. Scouts of the World Award in the UK is managed by the Scout Association and is unique to members of the Scout Network section.

Applications are invited from members of the Scout Network in the United Kingdom for the next (third) Scouts of the World Award Discovery to be held over the first two weekends in October 2009. Successful completion of the Discovery is the first stage toward achieving the Scouts of the World Award.

Details of the 3rd UK Scouts of the World Award Discovery are as follows :

Dates : October 2nd to 4th and 9th to 11th ( from 7 pm on the Friday to 4pm on the Sunday both weekends). Both weekends are residential – indoor accommodation.

Location (Scouts of the World Base) : Leicester Scout Centre, Blaby (10 minutes from junction 21 on the M1). Note that the second weekend will be at a different location, but we can give this information in the joining instructions.

Theme : Environment (one of three themes arising from the UN Millenium Declaration).

Partners : Severn Trent Water (participants will spend Saturday October 3rd at the Barston treatment plant).

Cost : £95 payable in advance. Please make cheques payable to The Scout Association.

Further information and joining instructions will be sent to participants at the beginning of September. We recommend early application to avoid disappointment – places are limited and will be allocated strictly on a first come first served basis.
